Golf’s financial contribution
John Paul Newport’s column this week connects Hurricane Katrina with the PGA Merchandise Show and this week’s Northern Trust Open. The bottom line is that the game’s economic contribution comes in at least two flavors: area charities and the $61 billion in wages paid to those who make their livings in and around the game.
It’s a good argument, and it’s time for a more positive light to shine on golf. I would add a third contribution the game makes: my sanity. And this weather is making me crazy.
Let’s tee it up … soon.
