The tool that is your computer
I don’t have a pick-up truck with one of those big steel boxes on the back. The work tool I need and use almost all day is a computer. I think of him as a brother: loyal and dependable, but sometimes headstrong and intractable.
When I hear others tell me about their computer problems, I sympathize, sometimes empathize, but I rarely offer advice. You need to work through these things on your own, I think, and sometimes that means taking drastic measures.
I became more aware of my “don’t intercede” philosophy this morning when reading Harry Hurt’s article (Sending an SOS for a PC Exorcist) in today’s New York Times … reading from my computer, no less.

What’s your idea?
