I’m amazed at the polar positions pundits are taking on the news about John Edwards continuing his quest for the White House in spite of Elizabeth Edwards’s cancer. Actually, she’s made it clear that this was her decision as much as his, that she didn’t want to be defined by her cancer or just sit around and wait to die.

It’s a sad story, that’s certain. One of the things that makes it intriguing, however, is how much more accessible it makes them, how much more like the rest of us.
