What’s your idea?
As many of you may know, Starbucks recently launched a new online community at mystarbucksidea.com where customers can submit and share, discuss, vote and see ideas in action that are aimed at improving and enhancing the Starbucks experience. It’s a fantastic online idea where you can witness the power of brand loyalty taking a new shape. It’s also a novel idea to simply ask people who buy from you what you can do to provide a better product or service.
I discovered another example in an unlikely place. The Masters has a section on its site where fans post ideas on how to grow the game of golf. The Masters wants to get youngsters excited about golf and the lifelong lessons it teaches. They’ll post a few thoughts each day and others during the year from participants. Ideas may be submitted until June 1, 2008.
This is another great example of technology being used to bring people - and ideas - together.

Neil, I found a similar type of program in an ad for Homewood Suites in Fast Company. It’s a contest that offers a come on that goes like this: “Whats your big idea? What innovation have you thought up, developed or just dreamed about?”
Not as good for the brand, obviously, because it doesn’t connect the idea with the advertiser. No relationship, actually. Just a come on.
