Vonnegut dies
Whether you read Slaughterhouse 5 or any of Vonnegut’s books, if you knew his of his work at all, you must have thought he was a pretty cool guy.
Kurt Vonnegut, Writer of Classics of the American Counterculture, Dies at 84 - New York Times

I find it ironic and not at all amusing that two mighty figures went down in the same week…one figuratively and the other literally.
First Kurt Vonnegut, arguably the best writer America produced last century…a prolific commentator on all things middle America…poverty, education, and yes, racism.
Secondly Don Imus commits career suicide. The connection between these two is really odd.
The only place I have seen or heard from Vonnegut since college was on Imus’ show. Admittedly I don’t read the New York Times enough or follow the literary world like I should but that’s the deal.
Imus’ was the only person on the planet capable of selling books [lots of books] by a guy like Vonnegut…which is of course why he would appear on the show.
So a writer dies and the only mainstream outlet for his work bites the dust within days of each other. Too much.
