DRM and photos on this blog
A couple of weeks ago, our Eric Gordon sent me a friendly message via email about some of the photos I was pasting into my posts. I have been fairly liberal, pulling from several public sites, including The New York Times.
Seems the Times has a fairly stringent usage policy, and if I had read the fine print, I probably wouldn’t have used anything from there. My problem - or my previous opportunity, I guess - is my interpretation of DRM, or digital rights management, is fairly liberal. If I use something illegally, then tell me, and I’ll stop.
Eric thought that might not be the way to go. So now I will use only my own photos, like the one below. They may not be as expressive, and they certainly won’t be as good, but they’re mine. If you want to know more about DRM, go to the Wikipedia article here. And here’s a provocative white paper on DRM and music by Steve Jobs.
