Google Health
As many of you know, I’m a fan and a big-time user of Google products.
In addition to search (”I’m feeling lucky”), I use Gmail, Google Docs as a convenient replacement for Microsoft Office, Picasa for photo management and Grand Central as my centralized phone system.
This morning I read in the NY Times about Google’s entry into personal health records. What better resource to break ground in storing medical records and other info online. Google is trustworthy - more than probably anyone online - and they are both deep-pocketed and innovative.
Last week I was at the dentist’s office for a regular cleaning. My annual x-rays (at $100, thank you) were still photos, displayed as film on a white box for the dentist and me to review. In other words, not digital. Not part of a digital record. Just a negative-looking set of photos now stuck in a file among thousands of other files in the fire trap of an office they have here on the Isle of Palms.
Perhaps we’re getting to the beginning of something with Google Health. I sure hope we’re getting to the end of something else.
What’s your idea?
