Digital fun in the workplace

In anticipation of this Labor Day weekend, I did some thinking about the workplace, what makes ours special (for me, at least), why I so enjoy being connected with my fellow Burrisites. I wrote a brief post on our Basecamp project site, and several made some awfully encouraging comments basically echoing my sentiments. (Very nice.)

In my case the workplace is wherever I can work … which is almost anywhere. That has a lot to do with my work happiness quotient; so does the fact that there are only six of us at Burris, each of us has a specific role, and each of us is capable - even encouraged - to crossover: to help, to fill in, or just because we can.

I think everyone has the potential as well as the responsibility to find, to demonstrate, to show his personal self on the job. Here, for instance, is the story of Tan Chade-Meng, featured in this morning’s NY Times. Seems Tan, a Google engineer, began a project years ago to photograph celebrities when they visit HQ. Of course, he’s the guy standing beside them.

Where’s your unique personality at work? How do you show it?

Here’s the link to Tan’s Picasa web site. And here’s a photo of me and one of my brief brushes with fame. That’s (from right) Dean Wagner and Anne Cassity at last year’s Burris Holiday Dinner.
