Going Green at the Grocery Store

This past weekend I was up at the Cape enjoying a weekend of golf and beer with my best friends. One of my friends, Jonathan, is now in a one car family. He attacks Boston traffic in his scooter, which he’s quick to remind you gets 100 miles per gallon. When we stopped by the dump on our way out, I was also reminded of the detail the town of Brewster goes to recycle. Green glass there; clear plastic here. Now a company in Australia, Markitcart, has developed “an award-winning alternative to the traditional steel shopping cart aimed at improving the concept not just for consumers but also for retailers and advertisers.” Made of recyclable plastic, the carts can be colored and branded to match the store they come from. They can also carry interchangeable ads. They’re lighter than traditional carts and carry more stuff and “their lower center of gravity makes them less likely to topple when children climb aboard.”

Take a look and be sure to build your own.
