How about a gasoline tax?

Readers of Thomas Friedman know he remains incredulous that our leaders didn’t advocate, introduce and enact a gasoline tax. The issue comes up again today in Friedman’s column:

“You’d think that one person, just one, running for Congress or the Senate would take a flier and say: ‘Oh, what the heck. I’m going to lose anyway. Why not tell the truth? I’ll support a gasoline tax.’”

As the price of oil has increased from just south of $30 on 9/11/01 to almost $100 a barrel today, you might ask along with me, “What the f—?”

But the same question might be asked about any major issue. All these candidates still on the stage at the debates, running around SC and IA and NV and NH, spending obscene amounts of money (on gas too), and not one of them asking, hey, “What the f—?”

Maybe I’ll write in Friedman’s name.
