Amazon’s “Kindle”

I think Amazon’s new e-reading device, “kindle,” is fascinating on a lot of levels, not the least of which are the marketing comparisons with the original iPod and the iTunes Store. Pricing is virtually the same, a $9.99 regular cost for current bestsellers, as an “album” on iTunes. And you have to admire Jeff Bezos’s timing (the holiday season) and ambition: eventually every book in print will be available.

The product appears to be pretty cool too. I’m not ready to give up my books - or my bookcases - but if Betty’s thinking of something digital for me this Christmas …
