Playing with widgets

Many think widgets - those smallish, content-filled buttons we can use, even create, for our websites - are the future of content management. They’re on Facebook, part of the Mac OS, even part of a desktop system created by Yahoo.

Today I’ve been fooling around with them a bit. I found one that shares with you what I’ve been buying from the iTunes Store, a place I visit and purchase from way too often (evidenced by the $.99 purchases on my AmEx card). If you’re interested, here’s my iTunes widget.

It’s really pretty cool what you can do with these things. The simple choices include weather or movie times and the like. There are widgets you can put on your site that show your photos, your caloric intake, your browsing activity. Is it the future of web content? Not so sure about that. But they certainly expand the tools we have in building our content systems.

What’s your idea?
