More Practice
I am a huge John Ashworth fan. I have always loved the Ashworth golfman logo and the way the brand projected itself in its infancy. When John Ashworth left his company and founded Fidra Golf I was even more impressed by the brand presentation. From advertising and apparel tags to the website, things were classy but cool. On the other hand Ashworth started to look not so cool even with Jim Nantz sporting some traditional pique on the weekends.
Recently John Ashworth has come home again, and his impact is being felt at least in what I’ve seen in print advertising. One particular ad that caught my attention features Bruce Lietzke and a golf ball with the side stamp “practice.” (Click here to view.) A very clean emotional presentation of what Ashworth represents in golf. The execution was very similar if not exactly the same, however, as an ad for Fidra a few years back. I have no problem with the similarity, but I think it’s clear that so much of the brand identity presented represents John Ashworth’s idea of golf and the principals for which the game stands and one I very much admire … as opposed to either Ashworth or Fidra.

What’s your idea?
